Le retour à l'école
Studies concerned with youth education and their labour market activities usually refer to the concept of transition as a situation where young people leave school to enter into the labour market. This concept suggests a one-way transition, but there can be many more types of transition. For example, it is not unusual to observe students working while in school. If many leave school with or without a high school diploma to enter full time into the labour market, some of them eventually return to school to either finish high school or pursue post secondary education. In this study, we use the Statistics Canada's School Leavers Survey and its Follow-up to study the determinants of those dropouts who decided to return to high school. Personal and socio-economics characteristics, and institutional variables are among the determinants of return to schooling considered in our econometric analysis. More precisely, the institutional variables retained include minimum wages and labour market conditions.
