CIRANO organized the roundtable "COVID-19 - How International Scientific Research Efforts are Moving us Towards a Safer Future" on December 15, 2020 during the 26th edition of the Conference of Montreal of the International Economic Forum of the Americas.

Never before has medical research had such an impact on the economy, on employment, on the way we live, collaborate, trade and interact. The world's most creative and eminent scientists have joined forces to save lives during COVID-19 pandemic, provide safe opportunities for workers and citizens to interact and guide public health decisions. Where is the science on understanding the spread of the virus, vaccines, treatments for those affected, testing and tracking strategies? What challenges do we still need to overcome in order to visit our loved ones and return to work safely? What factors have enabled such rapid advances in research? What have been the greatest challenges in enabling this unprecedented international and multidisciplinary collaboration? What are the opportunities for the scientific community to continue its concerted efforts to contribute to the physical, mental and social health of populations?
