A joint RSI-CREEi-CIRANO research project on the state of personal finances in Quebec in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic

This joint research project by the Retirement and Savings Institute (RSI), the Research Chair in Intergenerational Economics (CREEi) and CIRANO aimed to analyze how the pandemic had impacted the personal finances of Quebec households, how households used emergency financial assistance and how they saw the future from a financial point of view.

This project was based on an original survey of 3,000 Quebecers, conducted in May 2020, on their personal finances and the state of their income and expenses in 2019 (before the pandemic), in April 2020 (during the pandemic), and for the rest of 2020 (Quebecers' expectations for the rest of the year).

The data from this survey is now available for free online access through the Dataverse portal of the RSI.

In addition, Pierre-Carl Michaud (HEC Montréal, RSI, CREEi, CIRANO) will give a presentation on October 14 as part of the Midis de la recherche at HEC Montréal. The presentation, entitled "La cigale et la fourmi? Personal and Public Finances in Times of Pandemic", will use several recent research results related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including results from the above-mentioned survey. It is possible for anyone to attend online. Details and registration to this event
