Knowledge transfer and support for the next generation of academics and professionals at CIRANO

The  GVCdtLab esearch project team at CIRANO was pleased to welcome HEC Montréal's International Business students on two occasions as part of the methodology course « Exploitation and Exploration of Geospatial Data » taught by Thierry Warin, full professor at HEC Montréal and CIRANO Fellow.

At the first meeting, on September 23, 2024, the research and data science team of the CIRANO Pole on Data Science for Trade and Intermodal Transportation (also known as GVCdtLab) presented its work and the methodologies used. The professionals also shared their working methods with the students, encouraging them to develop a new approach to analyze the economic and commercial dynamics within the St. Lawrence-Great Lakes region, one of the most dynamic in the world in terms of trade. Divided into small groups, the students then developed a research problem and question, with the aim of presenting their findings during the following session.

On November 4, 2024, the students presented their results in a poster session. Thierry Warin and the GVCdtLab team took the time to provide constructive comments and observations. It was a proud moment for the students, and a great opportunity for CIRANO to accomplish one of the pillars of its mission: knowledge transfer and support for the next generation of academics and professionals.
