Transport Canada announced funding for the project "Data Science and Knowledge Transfer Hub for Trade and Intermodal Transportation in the St. Lawrence/Great Lakes Corridor (SLGL)."
This project will address the challenges faced by the St. Lawrence/Great Lakes Trade Corridor (SLGL) regarding the complexity of its multimodal transportation systems.
Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant, explained in the January 24, 2024, press release: "Strong supply chains are an important part of keeping the cost of life affordable to Canadians. Technological innovation will help make supply chains more efficient and more resilient. With these investments, we’re making sure crucial knowledge and information can be shared and acted on for the benefit of Canadian consumers, workers and businesses."
For this project, the Government of Canada will contribute up to $2.6 million over 5 years to CIRANO through the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF).
This project is part of the CIRANO Pole on Data Science for Trade and Intermodal Transportation activities.
This application was successfully led by Thierry Warin (HEC Montréal, CIRANO) with the collaboration of Alain Dudoit, CIRANO Visiting Fellow and Molivann Panot, CIRANO Project Director, as well as the support of CIRANO's administrative team.
Several researchers from HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, UQAM, Université de Montréal, Université du Québec à Rimouski, University of Ottawa will be involved, in collaboration with CIRRELT and IVADO. Various ministries, municipalities, and ecosystem stakeholders will be involved in different aspects of the project.
The launch of the project will take place on 21 March at the CIRANO & Transport Canada Symposium with the researchers involved, partners and all stakeholders in the ecosystem of the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes region.
Registration is required to attend this event.
To rediscover these challenges before March 21, the video "Le Corridor Saint-Laurent face aux perturbations du commerce international" is available on the CIRANO YouTube channel and introduces the challenges faced by the St. Lawrence-Great Lakes Trade Corridor (SLGL).
