On April 20 and 21, 2023, CIRANO organized a workshop on Behavioral and Experimental Economics for Innovative Policymaking to honour one of the pioneers of experimental and behavioral economics in Canada, Claude Montmarquette.

Claude Montmarquette was a professor emeritus at Université de Montréal and a CIRANO Researcher and Fellow. His work has had a significant impact in the fields of economics and public policy. He was known for his use of experimental methods to inform economic policy. He chaired and participated in numerous committees for the Quebec government and served on several others, both nationally and internationally. The author or editor of 11 books, 90 scientific articles, and more than 60 public policy reports, he was named an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec in 2019 and received the Gérard Parizeau Award for his work in economics of education.

This scientific workshop on behavioral economics and public policy aimed to bring together his co-authors, friends, and international researchers to share their latest research and insights on behavioral and experimental economics. A wide range of topics that can inform policy decisions in areas such as financial literacy, consumer protection, education policy, leadership development, and environmental protection were discussed during the two-day conference.

We hope that Dr. Montmarquette's work will inspire future generations of researchers to follow in his footsteps and continue his legacy of using experimental and behavioral methods to inform public policy.
