Le soutien financier aux études postsecondaires a-t-il un impact sur les choix des jeunes ?
The Quebec Student Loan and Scholarships Program enables tens of thousands of students with insufficient financial resources to pursue post-secondary studies. In July 2023, the Minister of Higher Education confirmed that enhancements to the program, representing investments of $140 million, would come into effect at the start of the new school year. On the federal side, interest on student and apprentice loans has been eliminated since 2022, which is not the case in Quebec. A recent CIRANO study looks at post-secondary participation issues. Using data from a randomized experiment unique in the world, the authors show that increased financial support for post-secondary education has very little impact on youth's educational choices.
