Le Québec économique 10 - Chapitre 11 - Les rendements des compétences sur le marché du travail au Québec : le rôle de la numératie.
The purpose of this chapter is to estimate the relationship between numeracy skills and earnings of Quebec workers. To do so, we use confidential microdata from the Programme pour l’évaluation internationale des compétences des adultes (PEICA) and the Enquête longitudinale et internationale des adultes (ELIA). We first develop a socioeconomic portrait of individuals by skill level and then measure wage returns to skills by age, gender, country of birth, parental education, industry, and type of worker. Our results suggest that a one standard deviation increase in numeracy skills is associated with an average 20% increase in wages. Returns to numeracy skills are highly significant for both genders, but women have lower skills on average.
