In preparation for the launch of Le Québec économique 9, CIRANO organized a half-day symposium on November 24 on the theme of opportunities and challenges related to digital transformation. Authors of the book discussed the challenges related to this issue. Nearly a hundred people attended this virtual event.
Quebec's Minister of Economy and Innovation Pierre Fitzgibbon opened the event with a word of congratulations to the many authors who contributed to this 9th edition of Le Québec économique and underlined the richness of the themes addressed.
The roundtable on ecosystems, the State and businesses in the context of digital transformation included Catherine Beaudry (Polytechnique Montréal and CIRANO), Laurence Solar-Pelletier (Polytechnique Montréal), Simon Bourdeau (ESG UQAM and CIRANO) and Daniel J. Caron (ENAP and CIRANO).
Discussions focused on technologies and public policies in support of the development of artificial intelligence, the management of digital transformation projects in terms of issues and benefits, collaboration and innovation, digital technologies and organizational efficiency or how to rethink the public organization according to its information flows.
Followed a roundtable discussion on the labor market, training and education in the context of digital transformation with Genevieve Dufour (CIRANO), Benoit Dostie (HEC Montréal and CIRANO) and Catherine Haeck (ESG UQAM and CIRANO).
There was discussion of continuing education, technological change and wage polarization in Quebec, and access to government data.
Pierre Cléroux, Vice President, Research and Chief Economist at Business Development Bank of Canada, then shared his analysis in a presentation entitled "The pandemic is holding back a growing economy".
Finally, Dalibor Stevanovic (ESG UQAM and CIRANO) and Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin (Polytechnique Montréal and CIRANO) spoke on new forecasting models and new data sources for innovative public policies.
