Presentation of the Results of the Baromètre de la confiance dans les aliments to MAPAQ

On January 29, 2026, Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin and Ingrid Peignier presented, as part of a training seminar for professionals and executives of MAPAQ (Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Québec), the main findings of the 4th edition of the Baromètre de la confiance des consommateurs québécois à l’égard des aliments.

This seminar was part of a knowledge transfer initiative aimed at equipping ministry teams with analytical tools to support their work and interventions in biofood policy. It drew on the results of the most recent Barometer survey, conducted in February 2025 among a representative sample of 1,003 Quebecers.

Since 2018, the Government of Québec has articulated a clear ambition in its Biofood Policy—an ambition that was reaffirmed in the new 2025–2035 Policy—to maintain a high level of consumer confidence in food. To monitor changes in this confidence and better understand its underlying drivers, the Quebec Consumer Food Confidence Barometer, developed by CIRANO, has become a reference tool.

Updated every two years, the Barometer has made it possible since 2019 to measure the level of confidence among Quebecers, identify the factors that influence it, and gain deeper insight into the values and concerns shaping food-related perceptions. Developed at CIRANO by Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, Full Professor at Polytechnique Montréal and Fellow CIRANO, and Ingrid Peignier, Senior Director of Partnerships and Research Valorization and CIRANO Project Director, the Barometer serves both as a scientific analytical tool and as practical decision-making support for government authorities and stakeholders across the biofood value chain.
