The Joint Montreal Macro Brownbag gives Montreal-based researchers in macroeconomics the opportunity to meet and discuss each others’ work. The event brings together researchers from all economics departments in Montreal and promotes their collaboration.

Paul Gomme

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 2017, Paul Gomme is Professor in the Department of Economics at Concordia University.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, his research interests are the study of business cycles, the effects of monetary and fiscal policy on the economy, the determinants of employment, and the effects of labor market policy on unemployment and labor market participation.

Paul Gomme joined the Department of Economics of Concordia University in 2006. He has worked at Université de Montréal, Simon Fraser University, the University of Iowa, and more recently as an economist and senior economic adviser at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

Julien Martin

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 2015, Main Researcher of the theme World Economy, Julien Martin is a full professor in the Department of Economics at the École des sciences de la gestion of the Université du Québec à Montréal (ESG-UQAM). He holds the UQAM Strategic Research Chair on the local impact of multinational firms. He is also affiliated with ENSAE-CREST, a researcher at CEPR and serves as an associate editor for the European Economic Review.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the Paris School of Economics, his research interests are related to international trade and macroeconomics. His research exploits firm-level data to examine various topics including international economics, corporate taxation, and urban economics.

Markus Poschke

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 2008, Markus Poschke is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at McGill University.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the European University Institute, his research interests are in macroeconomics broadly, in particular inequality, taxation, growth theory, firm dynamics, entrepreneurship, structural change, and the macroeconomics of labour markets.

He received the Bank of Canada's Governor's Award in 2018. Institut universitaire européen

Simon van Norden

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 1998, Simon van Norden is Full Professor in the Department of Finance at HEC Montréal. He is also a member of the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en économie quantitative (CIREQ) and a visiting scholar at the FRB Philadelphia.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his research interests are international finance and monetary economics.

Simon van Norden spent three years in the HEC’s International Business Department and nine years at the Bank of Canada. He has done some adjunct teaching at WBS and ETH Zurich, and he is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Business Cycle Research. He occasionally does technical consulting via his firm Ergodic Quantitative Consulting Inc.
