Sponsored jointly by the Association of Cultural Economics International in conjunction with CIRANO and organized by Douglas J. Hodgson (Université du Québec à Montréal and CIRANO), the Fourth North American Workshop on Cultural Economics took place on November 2-3-4 2017 at CIRANO.

 

The North American Workshop on Cultural Economics is intended to provide a forum for the development and dissemination of economic research in cultural economics, as well cultural-related applications of mathematical economics, experimental economics and other quantitative approaches.

 

The workshop consisted of 12 papers in 4 different sessions. Each paper was allocated 1/2 hour, made up of a presentation by the authors, followed by a comment from a nominated discussant and a general discussion.

Bryan Campbell

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 1998, Bryan Campbell is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Economics at Concordia University.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from the Université de Montréal, he specializes in macroeconomics and econometrics. His research focuses on financial econometrics and the application of nonparametric tests to the evaluation of macroeconomic forecasts.

Bronwyn Coate

Bronwyn Coate is Professor at RMIT University.

Marie Connolly

A CIRANO Researcher and Fellow since 2009, Marie Connolly is Full Professor in the Department of Economics at the École des sciences de la gestion of the Université du Québec à Montréal (ESG UQAM) and Vice Dean of Research at ESG UQAM. She is also founder and director of the Research Group on Human Capital.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University, her research is primarily empirical and touches upon various topics in labor economics, such as social mobility, the formation of human capital, the gender wage gap, subjective well-being, women’s labor force participation and the evaluation of public policy. She is also interested in the economics of popular music, including the resale of concert tickets and the environmental practices of rock bands.

Her work as been published in the Journal of Labor Economics, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and the Canadian Journal of Economics, among others.

Douglas James Hodgson

A CIRANO Rsearcher and Fellow since 2007, Douglas James Hodgson is Professor in the Department of Economics at the École des sciences de la gestion of the Université du Québec à Montréal.

Holding a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University, his research interests are econometrics, economics of the arts and financial economics.
