In Quebec, children must be 5 years old before October 1st to be admitted to kindergarten. In the same class, the youngest children are therefore up to one year younger than the oldest. In a CIRANO study, the authors show that children born in September have 35% higher rates of ADHD diagnosis and medication than those born in October. ADHD is believed to be confused with inattentive or more unruly behaviours.
During this roundtable, Catherine Haeck, ESG-UQAM Full professor, Fellow and Principal Researcher of the CIRANO Skills theme, Pierre Lefebvre, ESG-UQAM Associate professor and Philip Merrigan, ESG-UQAM Professor, CIRANO Researcher and Fellow, will present the results from their recently published CIRANO study. Marie-Christine Brault, Professor at UQAC and Chair of the Canada Research Chair in Children, Medicine and Society, and Isabelle Boisvert, scientific coordinator at the Institut national d'excellence en santé et en services sociaux, will enrich the discussions by presenting research findings and recommendations on ADHD.
The event will end with a discussion between the specialists and the participants and a cocktail reception.
The event will be held in French.
Registration is free but mandatory.
