A CIRANO Associate Researcher and Fellow since 2010, Jean-Pierre Ponssard is Professor at École polytechnique. He is also Emeritus Senior Research Fellow at CNRS, Research Fellow at CREST and Associate Research Fellow at Institut Louis Bachelier and CESifo. Since 2015, he is responsible with Gaël Giraud for the Energy and Prosperity Chair: Energy Transition pathways and Financing.
Holding a Ph.D. from Stanford University, his fields of research concern economics of environment, industrial organization, and game theory.
He was Coordinator of the "Business Sustainability" Research Initiative Europlace Institute of Finance (EIF) (2012-2015), Chairman of the École polytechnique chair in "Business Economics" (2007-2011), Research Vice President, Economics Department at École polytechnique (2006-2009), Director of CNRS-École polytechnique econometrics laboratory (1999-2009), Co-chairman (with C. Gollier) of the chair for sustainable finance and responsible investment (FDIR) (2007-2010), Chairman of the École polytechnique-EDF chair in "Sustainable Development" (2003-2004), and Director of ADRES (2003-2006).
He has published in international journals and recently coordinated the publication of two collective books: Économie du climat : Pistes pour l’après Kyoto (with Olivier Godard) (2011) et Corporate Social Responsibility: from Compliance to Opportunity (with Patricia Crifo) (2010).
Jean-Pierre Ponssard was awarded the CNRS Excellence Award in 2010, the CNRS Silver Medal in 1992 and the prize for the best industrial economist awarded by the Nouvel Économiste in 1993.
